April 5 – Netherlands captain Virgil van Dijk says he wants to give coach Louis van Gaal “a World Cup to never forget” in Qatar later this year in the light of van Gaal’s health situation.
Van Gaal told a TV station, during an interview about an upcoming film about his life, that he is suffering from prostate cancer but that he opted to keep the news from his players during the March international break.
Van Dijk only found out when he tuned in to watch Van Gaal’s interview and was stunned.
“I was in shock last night when I heard his interview,” said van Dyke.
“It definitely says a lot about him. I told him as well that we are definitely going to be there for him as a group whenever he needs it, and hopefully we can also make it for him a World Cup to never forget.’
