April 14 – It has been an enthralling race for the 2021/22 Premier League title between the two premier sides in English football and it is showing no signs of slowing between Manchester City and Liverpool.
Following a pulsating 2-2 draw between the two sides at the Etihad last time out, neither side is closer to ascertaining whether they can go on and lift the Premier League trophy this term.
City are the defending champions and find themselves very much in the box seat, with a 1-point lead with just 7 games to play in the campaign.
It could have been better for Pep Guardiola’s side however, who had a 9-point lead as far back as January but slip ups against Southampton, Tottenham and Crystal Palace have opened the door somewhat for Liverpool.
However, with 3 Premier League titles from the last 4 seasons under Pep Guardiola, the blues certainly have a squad packed with talent and that have the knowhow when it comes to getting over the line. But coming out of the mid-week Champions League win in Spain, Guardiola has complained that his squad is in “big trouble”, having picked up injuries to Kyle Walker and Kevin de Bruyne.
City do perhaps arguably have the ‘kinder’ run in, with West Ham United the highest placed team in the table they are due to face before the end of the season.
That said, it is a big ask for City, who are also competing in both the Champions League and FA Cup in their quest for yet more silverware.
At 2/5 to win the Premier League title this season, Manchester City are undoubtedly in control of the situation, but one slip up will certainly let Jurgen Klopp’s reds into the mix once more, the UK betting aggregator BritishGambler reported.
Liverpool have perhaps surprised a few this season, surpassing the much-fancied Chelsea and Manchester United to find themselves once again as the key contenders in the Premier League title race.
Jurgen Klopp masterminded his side’s title win in 2019/20 and has once again nurtured a side that could well end up winning the unprecedented quadruple this season, having already won the Carabao Cup this term.
Mohamed Salah’s goals have fired Liverpool very much into contention this term and the Egyptian looks to be perhaps the most important factor in their title charge this season.
Sitting only one point behind City, is testament to the consistency Liverpool have shown this season but with 10 wins from their last 11 league games, they are certainly demonstrating the type of form needed to win a Premier League title.
Manchester United and Tottenham are just two of the sides that could cause a problem for Liverpool between now and the end of the season but if they can figure out a way past both of those teams, they will surely be in the mix come the final day of the season on May 22.
Coming in at 39/20 to win their second Premier League title in three years, Liverpool certainly look well placed to put the pressure on City and the infamous Anfield atmosphere could well prove crucial when the reds need it most.
With a FA Cup semi-final between the two sides coming up and the potential prospect of the two teams meeting in the Champions League final in Paris in May, there is no doubt that Manchester City and Liverpool are two of the biggest sides in Europe currently and it remains to be seen who will come out on top this term.
