August 31 – The Argentine Football Association (AFA) is trading on it men’s national team being one of the favourites for the 2022 World Cup, adding motor company GAC-Mitsubishi as a regional sponsor for Asia of the national team.
The AFA has been building a stronger brand presence in China in particular. GAC-Mitsubishi is Chinese-Japanese business and opens up a new sponsorship category for the AFA.
Claudio Tapia, president of AFA, highlighted: “The Association’s objective is the continuous search and expansion of international opportunities to continue positioning the National Team with our fans throughout the world. This agreement allows us to create a direct link between car consumers and our national team in a market as important as China. We welcome GAC-Mitsubishi as a new regional sponsor of our Association.”
No value or terms was given for the deal.
GuoJie Lv, senior vice president of GAC Mitsubishi Motors, said: “The Argentine national team is one of the strongest soccer teams in the world, with a strong fan base and great appeal in China…The strong alliance between GAC Mitsubishi and AFA not only reflects the pursuit of passion, ambition, exploration, fun and other spirits in our respective fields, but also helps GAC Mitsubishi interact with various consumer segments and strengthen the deep penetration of the brand in the emotions of users”.
