Jordan and Lebanon open WAFF Women’s Championship with big wins

August 31 – Jordan and Lebanon opened their 2022 WAFF Women’s Championship campaigns with 4-0 and 3-0 wins over Syria and Palestine at the Petra Stadium in Amman.

Jordan are the reigning champions and opened their defense of their title emphatically with the win over Syria who are making their fourth appearance at the competition.

Jordan were propelled by a hat-trick from Maysa Jbarah and a second half goal from Bana Al Bitar.

Jordan’s main rivals will be Lebanon, who finished third in the previous edition of the competition held in Bahrain in 2019.

A first half goal from Sophie Fayad and second half goals from Christy Maalouf and Lili Iskandar gave Lebanon the win over Palestine.

Lebanon and Jordan face each other on Thursday (September 1) before a final round of fixtures next Monday (September 4).

This is the third time Jordan have hosted the tournament that has been held seven times, the first being in 2005.

Jordan have won the title four times and the UAE twice.
