September 13 – New data ranking the top 10 players under 25 into 15 different positional categories has been released.
Real Madrid have five players topping the rankings by category, suggesting that their dominance of European football’s biggest competition is not about to end.
Arsenal have two players topping the list in goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale and ‘Shooter creator’ Bukayo Sako (Chelsea’s Mason Mount is ranked third). Chelsea’s Kai Havertz head the ‘Target man shooter’ category.
The players are given impact scores. The greatest values overall (100/100) were recorded for Inter Milan’s Alessandro Bastoni (blocker playmaker), Real Madrid’s Éder Militão (pure blocker), Barcelona’s Jules Koundé (air blocker filter man) and Real Madrid’s Vinícius Júnior (infiltrator creator).
“The Impact Score iis calculated by taking into consideration the average match level in which players participated according to the experience capital method, official game minutes played over the last 365 days, as well as pitch performance compared to both teammates, opponents and same profile’s players,” explains the CIES.
“The role-based approach used to determine technical profiles clusters players according to the level of their involvement in eight areas of the game with respect to teammates: air defence, ground defence, recovery, distribution, take on, chance creation, air attack and shooting.”
