September 29 – German players will bank €400,000 if they win the World Cup in Qatar.
The tournament bonuses for the team were agreed after negotiations with the players. “We had intense discussions in a good and constructive atmosphere,” said DFB President Bernd Neuendorf following a meeting with team representatives Manuel Neuer, Thomas Mueller, Joshua Kimmich and Ilkay Guendogan. “At the end of the day, we have found an acceptable solution for everyone.”
The Germans will get 400,000 euros if they bring the trophy home for a fifth time. That’s an increase of 100,000 euros from their last triumph at the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 and 50,000 euros more than in Russia when Germany exited the competition as defending champions in the first round.
The players will receive €200,000 as runners-up, and €150,000 as semi-finalists. They will get €50,000 for progressing from the group stage and €100,000 in the second round.
In Qatar, Germany will play Spain, Costa Rica and Japan in the group stages and they will be keen on restoring some pride after their embarrassing campaign at the last World Cup. Hansi Flick’s team will open their tournament on November 23 against Japan.
Germany lost to Hungary 1-0 in the Nations League. On Tuesday, they take on England at Wembley Stadium to wrap up their current Nations League campaign.
