Pavelko appeals Kyiv court suspension as he sees UEFA re-election

February 20 – Ukrainian Football Association (UAF) president Andriy Pavelko, who is running for re-election to the UEFA executive committee, has appealed against his suspension from the UAF by Ukrainian authorities in a Kyiv court.

Pavelko was arrested and accused of allegedly misusing international aid funds last November but was released after the UAF paid the bail fee of $271,000.

Pavelko was suspended from his role as president until March 17 by the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv, but the UAF has said that having filed an appeal he can continue.

“Andriy Pavelko continues to perform the duties of the President of the UAF until the acquisition of a relevant court of law,” said a UAF statement.

“This is the order of execution of the decision that was established by the judge of the Pechersk Court following the findings of the prosecutor’s concerns.

“Thus, before the end of the appeal hearing of the case Andriy Pavelko is authorised to perform his duties as President of the UAF.

“The appeal of today’s ruling of the court has already been directed to the court of appeal [and] also started work on the preparation of lawsuits to the European Court of Human Rights.”

Pavelko has been president of the UAF since 2015, and was elected to the UEFA Executive Committee in 2019. The UEFA Ordinary Congress in Portuguese capital Lisbon on April 5 will elect a new executive committee for a four year term.
