March 6 – The emblematic statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro glowed in the colours of the Bulgarian flag on the occasion of the National day of Bulgaria, 3rd of March, and the 100th anniversary of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU).
The landmark initiative was carried out by Bulgaria’s Ambassador in Brazil Bozhidara Sarchadzhieva and was supported by the president of Bulgarian Football Union Borislav Mihailov and Vice President Mihail Kasabov.
The initiative was also a gesture of respect and tribute on the part of the Bulgarian football family to, Pele, who died at the end of 2022.
The symbolic colouring for the first time in white, green and red of one of the most famous monuments in the world took place at 19:30 Brazilian time on March 3, or shortly after midnight Bulgarian. The ceremony was broadcast live on the You Tube channel of the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Brazil.
This year the Bulgarian Football Union is celebrating 100 years since its establishment. At the end of last year, the BFS presented a new jubilee logo, which will be used throughout 2023, as part of the celebrations of the anniversary of the first organised football in Bulgaria.
The symbol of the national teams, an heraldic lion on a shield, was also updated, with the addition of a laurel wreath.
Both logos will be present on Bulgaria’s new kits, produced by Macron. The unique jersey collection will debut in international fixtures in June. The creation of the anniversary logo is part of a series of centenary celebrations to be carries out this year.
