March 31 – Wrexham, better know internationally for their Hollywood star owners and Netflix TV series than their football, will play Manchester United (generally known for their football but who don’t mind a bit of drama) in a friendly match in San Diego July 25.
The match will be part of a summer tour by Manchester United in the US with the club putting out a youth-focused team from its travelling squad who will spend a week-long training camp in San Diego.
Wrexham, located in Wales, are top of the fifth tier of English football and set for the EFL, and probably another season of the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ series on Netflix.
Owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, they have a real ambition for the club.
“We’ve been very clear from the very beginning that our ultimate goal is to get to the Premier League, which a lot of people laughed at, but I don’t think they’re laughing at us much now. The truth is, the system is in place for that very thing to happen,” said McElhenney.
