April 6 – Benfica centre-forward Gonçalo Ramos (€70 million) and centre back António Silva (€66 million) top a ranking of the highest value players under the age of 23 and playing for clubs outside the Big 5 European leagues.
The ranking of 100 U-23 players compiled by the CIES Football Observatory lists Sporting CP centre back Gonçalo Inácio ranked third (€62 million) and another centre back, Jurriën Timber (€57 million) from Holland’s Ajax, ranked fourth. Ajax defensive midfielder Kenneth Taylor (€49 million), makes it an all-European top 5.
“The three U23 players outside Portugal and the Netherlands with the greatest estimated transfer values are Yuri Alberto (€35 million) of Corinthians, Benjamin Šeško (€34 million) of RB Salzburg (already signed by RB Leipzig) and André Trindade (€31 million) of Fluminense,” reports the CIES.
“Maarten Vandevoordt (Genk, on loan from RB Leipzig) tops the list for goalkeepers (€20 million), Devyne Rensch (Ajax) for full backs (€23 million), and Kenneth Taylor (also Ajax) for midfielders (€49 million).”
With 18 players in the top 100, Brazil’s Serie A is one ahead of the Dutch Eredivisie’s 17. 19 leagues are represented in the top 100. RB Salzburg has the most players in the ranking (10), followed by Feyenoord (6), Ajax (5), Burnley (4) and PSV Eindhoven (also 4).
