Spurs players to refund tickets for travelling fans after Newcastle thrashing

April 26 – Tottenham Hotspur’s players will reimburse the club’s supporters who paid for tickets to watch their side get thrashed 6-1 by Newcastle United over the weekend.

Newcastle is the furthest Premier League ground away from London and the Spurs squad made the gesture two days after the team conceded five goals in the opening 21 minutes.

The result ended up costing Christian Stellini his job as interim manager with former player Ryan Mason now leading the team on a temporary basis, just as he did in 2021 following Jose Mourinho’s departure.

“We know this (gesture) does not change what happened on Sunday,” a Tottenham statement read, “and we will give everything to put things right, starting against Manchester United on Thursday evening when, again, your support will mean everything to us.

The players also apologised for the performance. “As a squad, we understand your frustration, your anger. We know words aren’t enough in situations like this but believe us, a defeat like this hurts.”
