Montenegrin clubs fail licensing criteria leaving just 4 competitors for 3 UEFA club slots

May 4 – Only four clubs from Montenegro have been granted a license for next year’s European club tournaments. As many as nine clubs submitted documents for licensing, but most of them failed to meet the financial requirements, announced the Montenegro football federation (FSCG).

The clubs are evaluated according to five criteria – sports, infrastructural, administrative, legal and financial.

“After checking the documentation and based on evidence of fulfilment of the criteria, the Commission unanimously decided to issue a license for the tournaments organized by UEFA for FC Budučnost, FC Sutjeska, FC Decic and FC Breznica,” the FSCG said.

OFK Petrovac, FC Mornar, FC Arsenal were all denied a license for the 2023/2024 seasonfor not meeting the financial criteria. FC Iskra’s submission was not considered as the club did not submit any documentation regarding the financial status of the club. ŽFK Budbučnost also did not receive a license, as it withdrew its documents during the licensing process in March.

Clubs that do not meet the prescribed requirements and remain without a license can appeal the decision of the Licensing Commission of the Montenegrin Football Union.

In the 2023/2024 season, Montenegro will have one representative in the Champions League, which will start its participation in the tournament qualifiers, as well as two representatives in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifiers.
