May 24 – The Football Association of Serbia (FSS) has punished Serbian Super League team FK Kolubara Lazarevac with a nine point deduction, one round before the end of the season, virtually ensuring the club will be relegated to the second tier for next season.
The sanction comes after an investigation by the Serbian FA was ordered by UEFA over allegations of fixed matches involving FK Kolubara Lazarevac, FK Spartak Subotica, FK Mladost GAT Novi Sad and RFK Novi Sad.
UEFA’s alert indicated three matches involving the four teams: FK Mladost GAT vs FK Kolubara, FK Kolubara vs FK Spartak and RFK Novi Sad vs FK Radnički.
In addition to deducting the points, the Serbian Football Union fined Mladost GAT and Spartak Subotica 3 million dinars (€25,600) each.
The investigation into the match between Novi Sad vs Radnički NB has been closed due to insufficient evidence.
The Kolubara management has 48 hours to appeal the sanction, as the final decision must be clear before the start of the last round of the championship matches at the weekend.
“At the meeting of the FSS Disciplinary Committee earlier today, a decision was made related with information received from the UEFA competent authorities against FK Kolubara Lazarevac, FK Spartak Subotica, FK Mladost GAT Novi Sad and RFK Novi Sad Novi Sad, clubs that, by their actions or inactions, endangered and violated the integrity of football matches and Mozart Bet Super and First League competitions.
