UEFA fines Barca and Man Utd in latest round of FFP sanctions

July 17 – Barcelona and Manchester United are among a group of clubs punished by UEFA in the latest round of Financial Fair Play sanctions.

Barca have been fined €500,000 for wrongly reporting profits from “disposal of intangible assets” that should not have been accounted for as income according to FFP rules.

United must pay €300,000 for “minor breakeven deficits” for the financial years spanning between 2019 and 2022.

Two clubs failing to meet breakeven targets in new cases were new Belgian champion Royal Antwerp and Trabzonspor of Turkey. Each must pay €300,000 now with conditional fines of up to €1.7 million more due if subsequent targets are missed.

Anderlecht were fined €100,000 as a previously conditional financial penalty was activated.

UEFA recently updated FFP rules prioritising financial sustainability for clubs and moving away from setting competitive balance on the field as an achievable target.
