August 22 – LaLiga has announced the return of the LaLiga Hope Cup to Kunming, China, that will see six LaLiga U-16 sides face six Chinese Super League teams August 25-30.
The renewal of the tournament follows the success of the first edition of LaLiga Hope Cup in 2019 which saw FC Barcelona come out on top, featuring a young Gavi who has now become a staple of the Catalan club’s first team.
To be played in Kunming in southwest China, LaLiga Hope Cup is part of a long-term strategic agreement with China Sports Futurity Investment (CSFI) and the Kunming government, which includes other projects focused on the development of football in China.
The youth teams representing LaLiga are RCD Espanyol, Real Betis, Cádiz CF, Valencia CF, CA Osasuna and RC Celta.
“After the first tournament in 2019, we’re very excited to be able to host the LaLiga Hope Cup in China once again. The government of Kunming is deeply committed to developing its football and this international grassroots tournament, the only one of its kind in the country, underlines LaLiga’s strong support for the development of football in Kunming. After the recent LaLiga Legend Tour, which was held in five cities across the country, LaLiga Hope Cup 2023 will further deepen the sporting and cultural ties between China and Spain,” said Sergi Torrents, LALIGA Director in China.
In reference to the upcoming LALIGA Hope Cup event in Kunming, Wang Jiaming, Deputy General Manager of CSFI, highlighted the company’s unwavering commitment to China’s youth sports development.
“CSFI has long focused on introducing and originating international youth sports events, and the revival of the LALIGA Hope Cup in Kunming signifies a pivotal step in this direction. The collaboration between CSFI and LALIGA aims to harness the synergy of both of our strengths, with the shared goal of nurturing young talents and driving the growth of China’s sports industry.”
