Concacaf unveils draw for Central America Cup quarter-finals

September 4 – Concacaf has released the quarter final match-ups for the 2023 Concacaf Central American Cup to be September 26-28 (first legs) and October 3-5 (second legs). 

The eight clubs in the inaugural Central American Cup are also competing for six slots in the renamed 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup (previously the Concacaf Champions League).

Costa Rican clubs dominate the quarterfinals with four teams having made it to the knock-out stage, with one each from Guatemala, Honduras, Panama and Nicaragua.
After a 20-club group stage, which took place in August, the top two clubs from each group advanced to the competition’s Knockout stage which is comprised of home-and-away Quarterfinals, semi-finals, and final, and a further Champions Cup playing.

The Central American Cup Champion will qualify directly to the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup Round of 16.

The runners-up in the final and the two losing semi-finalists, will qualify for Champions Cup group stages as will two play-in winners from the four losing Quarterfinalists.

Qualifying group winners:
Group A: Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) and CS Cartaginés (CRC)
Group B: Club Atlético Independiente (PAN) and Real Estelí FC (NCA)
Group C: CS Herediano (CRC) and Comunicaciones FC (GUA)
Group D: LD Alajuelense (CRC) and FC Motagua (HON)

The quarter final draw was decided by seedings (1vs8, 2vs7, 3vs6, and 4vs5) and will see the following ties:

QF1: LD Alajuelense (1) vs CS Cartaginés (8)
QF2: CS Herediano (4) vs Comunicaciones FC (5)
QF3: Deportivo Saprissa (2) vs Real Estelí FC (7)
QF4: Club Atlético Independiente (3) vs FC Motagua (6)

The Semi-finals and Play-In will be played October 24-26 (First Legs) and October 31 – November 2 (Second Legs), while the two-legged final will be played November 28-30 (First Legs) and December 5-7 (Second Legs).
