Rangers hope management change will stop the rot

Rangers

October 2 – A third defeat in seven Scottish Premiership games led to Rangers firing manager Michael Beale on Sunday after less than a year in the hot seat and putting club favourite Steven Davis in interim charge.

Calls for Beale’s departure increased following the 3-1 home defeat by Aberdeen at Ibrox on Saturday, with the players again booed off the field and now seven points behind arch-rivals Celtic.

“Results this season have fallen short of what everyone connected to Rangers would expect. Therefore, the decision was reached today to terminate the contract of the manager,” a statement said.

Rangers were also thrashed 7-3 on aggregate by PSV Eindhoven in their Champions League playoff and have dropped into Europe’s second-tier Europa League competition.

Beale, 43, had rejoined Rangers last November to replace sacked Dutchman Giovanni van Bronckhorst after being part of the coaching team under former boss Steven Gerrard. He was formerly manager at English championship side Queen’s Park Rangers.
