Turkey’s major clubs call for ceasefire after horrific bombing of Gaza hospital

October 18 – Turkey’s biggest clubs Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor have strongly condemned the bomb attack on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in the Gaza Strip last night and called for an immediate ceasefire.

Palestinian officials say hundreds were killed by the massive blast at the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital which was sheltering thousands of displaced people. Many victims are still under the rubble, said local authorities.

Israel Defense Forces have “categorically” denied any involvement in the hospital attack, blaming instead a “failed rocket launch” by the Islamic Jihad group.

The Fenerbahce statement said: “Let the war end! We do not accept what was done to innocent people; we condemn the attack on hospitals in Gaza! May God have mercy on those who lost their lives in the war that has been going on for days and in the last attack, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

“The bombing of the hospital where innocent civilians are being treated in Gaza is absolutely unacceptable! We call on all humanity to take action to end the suffering in the region. We sincerely hope that the war will end as soon as possible and that peace and tranquility will prevail in the region as soon as possible. We thank those who lost their lives in the attacks. May God have mercy on them, our condolences to their grieving families and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured”, added from Galatasaray.

Besiktras said: “We strongly condemn the bomb attack on two hospitals in Gaza. We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives of hundreds of civilians as a result of the bombing of two hospitals in Gaza. The bombing of hospitals full of innocent civilians, regardless of religion, language, race or who is right or wrong, is unacceptable. “Justification cannot justify this brutality. We call on all humanity to take action to end the suffering in the region. We hope that the war will end as soon as possible and peace and tranquility will prevail in the region. We wish God’s mercy on those who lost their lives in the attacks and a speedy recovery for the injured.”

“We strongly condemn the attack on the hospital in Gaza! We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives of hundreds of civilians as a result of the attack on the hospital in Gaza. Targeting the hospital where innocent children and women were displaced from their homes as a result of the occupation means that international law and human rights are violated and will never be accepted. We invite all humanity to take action to end the suffering in the region without resorting to any justification or excuse. We wish God’s mercy on those who lost their lives in the attacks and a speedy recovery to the injured”, reads the statement of Trabzonspor.
Other clubs from the Turkish Super Lig have published similar positions on the war in the Gaza Strip.
