Turkey’s Artas Holding opens talks with Romanian club Universitatea Cluj

November 16 – Turkish company Artaș Holding will invest in the Romanian elite FC Universitatea Cluj, though terms for the partnership are unclear.

Talks between the company and the club started a month ago and are at an advanced stage. The Turkish company is represented by the former vice-president of Besiktas, Serhan Cetinsaya and the former manager of Trabzonspor.

Cetinsaya attended a recent Universitatea Cluj match together with other four members of the company.

Artaș Holding will invest in the Romanian club, but will reportedly not purchase shares, said the president of Universitatea Cluj, Radu Constantea.

“They were here on a two-day visit. We discussed the possibilities of investment in our club. It’s about partners, not shareholders. Negotiations progressed and they wanted to come and see what the city and the club was all about. We are about to specify all the details. Their delegation consisted of five people, and I can say that two of them have experience in football in Turkey and have held leadership positions”, said Constantea.

Artaş Holding,  has been operating in real estate, retail and tourism sectors for more than 45 years, but has also stepped into the industrial manufacturing sector in recent years.

The holding company’s real estate company is under the Avrupa Konutları brand. Artaş Holding also operates in the retail and tourism sectors, constructing shopping malls and hotels which it owns and operates. It has six shopping malls and 10 hotel projects, some of which are mixed-use projects, some of which are stand-alone. It has agreements in Turkey with international hotel-chain brands such as Radisson and Mövenpick.

At the end of 2022, Artaş Holding acquired Çelik Halat, Turkey’s first steel rope and wire factory.
