November 27 – Tottenham Hotspur, alongside its Official Payment Partner, AstroPay, has launched a new ‘green’ initiative targeting the club’s supporters who opt for public transport when attending home matches for the remainder of 2023.
The initiative has been set up with the primary aim of reducing the club’s carbon footprint, in which fan travel currently takes up 47%.
Fans have been given the opportunity to receive £12 in cashback, offered to the first 2,000 users traveling via TFL on specific home matchdays leading up to the New Year who use the new Spurs-branded AstroPay card.
The initiative made its debut versus in the 1-2 defeat at the hands of Aston Villa on Sunday, and will also feature at upcoming home matches versus West Ham United (7 December), Newcastle United (10 December), Everton (23 December), and AFC Bournemouth (31 December).
This incentive is part of a range of benefits provided to AstroPay card users and is aimed at encouraging greener travel options to matches.
Spurs have earned the title of the Premier League’s greenest club by Sports Positive for four consecutive years, establishing themselves as front runners for environmental consciousness.
The club says that it is committed to the UN Sports for Climate Action Framework, striving to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2040.
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was built to be a green travel destination: it is surrounded by walkable rail stations with links all over London, whilst also serving high-frequency TfL bus routes and operating a matchday shuttle bus from Wood Green and Alexandra Palace rail stations.
Astropay added Spurs to its Premier League partnership roster in August, lining up alongside Crystal Palace and Burnley.
