December 13 – The FIFA Museum has bolstered its showcase line-up after acquiring nearly 400 objects from the Women’s World Cup 2023.
The museum boasts one of the most extensive global collections of women’s football artefacts. Several of these new items were revealed to the public on December 12.
The FIFA Museum has been actively collecting at the men’s and women’s World Cup tournaments since 2018, in an effort to capture football history as it is being made on the biggest stage.
The Women’s World Cup 2023 was a historic victory for women’s football, breaking virtually every attendance record and home viewing record for a women’s football tournament.
Amongst the hundreds of match balls, shirts and boots being added to the museum’s display will be Jenni Hermoso’s match-worn kit from the Women’s World Cup final 2023, where she was infamously kissed by former Spanish FA President Luis Rubiales just minutes after she captained her side to World Cup glory.
FIFA Chief Women’s Football Officer Sarai Bareman said: “The FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 will for sure go down in history as the game changing moment that took women’s football to the next level. To see it immortalised in a showcase at the FIFA Museum, where fans can come and remember this landmark tournament is amazing. What a beautiful way to wrap up this year of women’s football.”
