January 11 – Atletico Madrid have announced a partnership with Riyadh-based Legends Museum, which will see the11-time La Liga champions open a technology-fuelled exhibition within the museum in a bid to appeal to its growing Saudi Arabian fan base.
The announcement was timed with the Colchoneros’ visit to the Saudi Arabian capital for the Spanish Super Cup, which they exited last night after a crushing 5-3 defeat in extra time to city rivals Real Madrid.
The Legends project, created by La Liga, is a museum-based initiative spanning multiple countries which combine to be the largest collection of memorabilia in the history of world football, with more than 5,000 authenticated pieces.
One of the highlights of the activation is the incorporation of a VR experience, which will use technology to allow fans to virtually experience key moments from the club’s recent matches.
The event will run from January 5-14, with organisers promising a “vast collection of football memorabilia and artefacts from legendary players across the globe”.
Having been dumped out of the Super Cup by Real Madrid last night, Atleti line up a rematch against their city rivals in the Copa Del Rey round of 16 on the January 18, before returning to La Liga action against Granada on January 22.
