February 26 – Irapuato and Celaya, in Guanajuato, Mexico, will host the 12-team 2024 Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship July 19-August 4.
The top four teams from the finals will qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup to be held in Chile. No Concacaf team has ever made the final of the U-20 World Cup with the best performance having been by the USA in 1989 with a fourth placed finish.
“The Concacaf Men’s U-20 Championship is a very important competition for the continued development of the best young players in our region. It provides them with a platform to compete with the best in Concacaf, and to qualify to play on the global stage at a FIFA U20 World Cup,” said Concacaf General Secretary Philippe Moggio.
The Championship will begin with a group stage of 12 teams in three groups, including the six highest-ranked teams according to the Concacaf U-20 Rankings – the United States (1), Honduras (2), Mexico (3), Panama (4), Costa Rica (5), and the Dominican Republic (6).
Six teams still have to qualify through a qualifying phase that has 27 nations currently competing and which will complete March 2.
The top two teams in each group in the finals plus the two best third placed finishers will qualify for the quarter finals. The four semi-finalists will qualify for the U-20 World Cup.
“I reiterate my pride that Celaya and Irapuato are hosting a sporting event of this level. I am sure that the fans of these cities will know how to welcome international visitors and that, above all, they will enjoy this great event, showing that the Mexican fans are the best in the world,” said the president of the Mexican Football Federation, Ivar Sisniega.
The competition’s 25 matches will be divided across two venues, Estadio Sergio León Chávez in Irapuato and Estadio Miguel Alemán Valdés in Celaya.
