May 10 – The Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) is near to closing a new title sponsorship with bookmakers William Hill once online car retailer cinch’s contract runs out at the end of this season.
The new deal would mark a return of William Hill to major Scottish football sponsorship.
In June 2020 William Hill ended its title sponsorship of the Scottish Cup and status as the Official Betting Partner of the Scotland National Team, a sponsorship it had held since 2011. William Hill is also sponsor of the South Stand at Hampden Park.
The new deal with the SPFL will begin next season and is reportedly for five seasons with an overall value of £10 million.
Last week, Neil Doncaster, SPFL Chief Executive, said: “Cinch is coming out of the contract this summer and I am optimistic that we will have a replacement sponsor for the start of the new season.
“I’m not going to tell you when. But I’m optimistic we will have a sponsor in place for next season.”
The SPFL is no stranger to bookmaker sponsorship have previously had Ladbrokes in a five year deal that ran until the end of the 2019/20 season.
That deal was announced as a record sponsorship for the SPFL when it was renewed in 2018, reckoned to be worth £5 million.
