May 21 – In a historic moment for Bulgarian football, a female referee will take charge of a match in the country’s first division.
Hristiana Guteva (pictured), 33, has been appointed for the round of 34 game between FC Krumovgrad and Levski Sofia in the efbet League.
“Hristiana Guteva has been a referee from the FIFA ranking list for the last seven years, and for the same amount of time she has been directing matches in the Second League of Bulgaria. Until that moment, Hristiana Guteva was appointed as the 4th referee and VAR judge, and with her successful performance, she earned the trust of the Refereeing Commission for her debut at the highest level in our championship”, said from the Professional Football League in Bulgaria.
“In the recent years, FIFA, UEFA and the Bulgarian Football Union have put in their programs a strong development of women’s football in general. The appointment of Hristiana Guteva is clear evidence of the rise of female referees in Bulgaria.”
