Croatia’s HNK Šibenik unveils plans for new €50m stadium

June 5 – Croatia’s HNK Šibenik have unveiled plans for the construction on a new stadium. Next season Šibenik will return to the top tier of Croatian football, after winning Prva NL by one point ahead of Zrinski Jurjevac.

The new stadiun will be built on the site of Stadium Šubićevac in Šibenik and will have a capacity of 8,000 seats with all stands will be covered.

The cost will be close to €50 million, with the finance being provided by the club and the Municipality of Šibenik, who will own the facility, as well as money from EU development funds. It will take five years to complete the stadium.

The project was presented to the public club owner Željko Karajica, architect Angela Vlaić, Sibenik mayor Željko Burić and politician Hrvoje Zekanović.

Karajica said that the stadium will be one of the most modern in Croatia and will meet all the requirements for holding international matches

“Everything you see here can be implemented. There is no potential problem, unlike many who speak on the subject. HNK Šibenik and the City of Šibenik, with the help of representatives such as Hrvoje Zekanović, are starting to close the financial structure for the construction of the stadium,” Mayor Burić said.

Zekanović, member of the Croatian Christian Democrat Party, said that the project will not be cheap.

“I follow Šibenik out of local patriotism, which is very important. I must emphasize here that there is no better example of investing in sports in Croatia than the investment in HNK Šibenik. Everything that the owners announced when they arrived, they achieved and much more. That’s why Burić and I are here. I emphasize that the project is not cheap, nor is it from yesterday. It develops according to the wishes of the club president. Thank you to those involved for making a huge effort to create the conceptual solution. If there is continued support from the City and Administration of Šibenik, the project will be realized,” he said.
