Bulgarians invest in more cameras to improve VAR decision making

June 12 – The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) is to invest an additional BGN 200,000 (€100,000) per season to improve the VAR system in the Bulgarian first division – the efbet League. Currently, the BFU pays BGN 1 million (€500,000) per season for VAR.

Georgi Ivanov, the new president of the BFU added that the association cannot afford to bring VAR into the Bulgarian Second League, as it does not have the financial means to pay.

The additional BGN 200,000 will be used to buy two additional cameras for each stadium which hosts games in the efbet League.

“The Bulgarian Football Union pays BGN 1 million (€500,000) for the VAR system per season. The new improvement and the addition of two new cameras at each stadium will cost an additional BGN 200,000 (€100,000)”, said Ivanov.

“Until now, there have been problems with VAR because there are stadiums where they cannot put cameras in the right places. However, with the installation of the additional cameras, we will be able to cover the entire terrain. This is very important for us, so that the refereeing can give equality to all clubs. We do not have the financial opportunity to introduce VAR into the Second League. The sum of BGN 1 million that we pay for VAR completely exceeds the budget of the Bulgarian Football Union”, he added.
