Klose takes manager role at Nuremberg

June 12 – Miroslav Klose has become the new manager of German club Nuremberg in a two-year deal.

On Tuesday, the club revealed that Germany’s all-time top goal-scorer will succeed Cristian Fiel, who departed for Hertha Berlin last week. The appointment at the second-division club marks Klose’s first role as a manager at home.

“Tradition, passion, honest work, great fans – these are all things that I love about football and that I associate with 1. FC Nuremberg,” said Klose.

“That’s why the opportunity to become a coach here grabbed me immediately. The club has a great foundation with its youth work, which we want to build on. I have known and valued Joti for many years. We are on the same wavelength as people and in the way, we think about football. Now it’s time to get going, get to work and get the season on the right track.”

Klose previously managed the Austrian club Rheindorf Altach. As a player, Klose won the World Cup with Germany in 2014 and became the top scorer for his country with 71 goals in 137 matches.

Nuremberg and their new manager will get their pre-season underway on June 24.

“Miro is an extremely meticulous and detail-obsessed coach who has not only experienced and learned a lot during his successful playing career, but has also developed a clear idea as a coach of how to be successful in football and what it takes to achieve this on the pitch and in the dressing room,” said Nuremberg sporting director Joti Chatzialexiou.
