U-17 Women’s World Cup draw pitches champions Spain against US and Colombia in group stage

June 24 – Reigning U-17 World Cup champions Spain will start the defence of their title this October in Group B, drawn against USA, South Korea and Colombia, runners-up last time around.

It is the toughest looking group for the 16-team world cup that will be played in Dominican Republic before moving for a five-hear hosting stint in Morocco from 2025.

The hosts will meet Ecuador, New Zealand and Nigeria in Group A.

The eighth edition of the tournament will comprise 32 matches to be played from October 16 to  November 3 in Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.

The draw was hosted in Santo Domingo by FIFA Director of Tournaments Jaime Yarza, with Dominican athlete and mountaineer Thais Herrera and the Canada-born Mexico youth international Tatiana Flores alongside him.

Herrera, the first Dominican woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest, said: “I am the living example that you can achieve your dreams. So, keep up the good work. I am looking forward to seeing those amazing games.”

Flores, who played in the tournament in India two years ago said: “The advice to all the players that will participate here is to be confident and go live your dream. ¡Y Buena suerte!”

Group C: Korea DPR, Mexico, Kenya, England

Group D: Japan , Poland, Brazil, Zambia
