Copa America assistant linesman collapses in 90 degree heat in Kansas

June 26 – With the Copa America under way in the US amid seering heat, an assistant referee collapsed with heat stroke near the end of the first half of Peru’s Group A match against Canada.

Played in hot and humid conditions at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City yesterday,

Guatemalan Humberto Panjoj collapsed.

Temperatures had reached 93 degrees farenheit with a humidity of 53% in Kansas.

Canada goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau attracted the attention of medical staff who treated Panjoj on the touchline. He briefly got back on his feet before being stretchered off.

Canada won the game 1-0 with a Jonathan David goal Peru had Miguel Araujo sent off.
