July 16 – The Cyprus Football Federation (CFA) has received a long-awaited permit for the construction of its new national team football base.
The new training centre will be built in Kornos, a district of Larnaca, on land granted free of charge by the government via a long term lease. Construction costs will be covered by the UEFA Hat Trick and FIFA Forward programs as well as by funds from the Federation.
“After all the obstacles were overcome and everything that needed to be done by the Cyprus Football Federation was done, the Town Planning Authority proceeded last Friday to issue the Town Planning Permit for the construction of the “Home of Cyprus Football”, which was one of the first announcements of CFA President Giorgos Koumas, when he assumed the Presidency of the Federation,” said a CFA announcement.
After securing the Planning Permit, the CFA Sports Center now requires a building permit which the CFA said it hopes it will have in the first half of 2025. A tender for the construction contract is being prepared with the federation aiming to begin construction by the end 2025 with completion in early 2028.
The Sports Center will will include a main stadium with 1,500 seats and which will host all Cyprus’ youth team matches, three auxiliary training fields, a guest house for athletes and auxiliary facilities (storage rooms, changing rooms, doctor’s office, gymnasium, meeting rooms, etc).
There will also be a specially designed synthetic turf pitch and that will host games in grassroots youth leagues.
The Cyprus Football Federation headquarters will also be housed on the site.
The facilities will be able to host conferences, seminars and training programmes for referees, coaches, and club administrators.
