Women’s Euro 2025 qualifies first 9 teams as 28 nations go into knockout rounds for last 7 slots

July 17 – Nine of the 16 Women’s Euro 2025 teams have been decided following the final round of group qualifying on Tuesday night, as holders England scraped through to earn a chance to retain their title next summer.

A further 28 teams will now go into two knock-out rounds to decide the final seven qualifying teams.

Amongst the surprise results of Tuesday night, France lost out to the Republic of Ireland in an unlikely 3-1 defeat in Cork, but the result will do little to dampen the French mood having already secured qualification into the finals next summer.

Germany’s 4-0 thrashing of Austria saw them qualify with a near-flawless record, only blemished by the side’s loss to Iceland in the penultimate round.

Similarly, World Champions Spain placed top of League A Group 2 with five wins out of six qualified.

Italy topped their group ahead of the Netherlands on goal difference.

Denmark and Iceland qualify as second-placed group finishers alongside hosts Switzerland.

The playoffs to decide the final seven slots will be made up of 28 teams spanning all three qualifying leagues. The final list of teams is as follows:

From Qualifying League A: Austria, Belgium, Czechia, Finland, Norway, Poland, Republic of Ireland, Sweden.

From Qualifying League B: Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Hungary, Northern Ireland, Portugal, Scotland, Serbia, Slovakia, Türkiye, Ukraine, Wales.

From Qualifying League C: Albania, Belarus, Georgia, Greece, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Romania, Slovenia.

The play-off draw will be held July 19 and the finals draw is on December 16.
