Spain jump to 3rd spot in men’s world rankings as Argentina maintain lead

July 18 – Argentina have strengthened their grip on the top spot of the FIFA World Ranking following their Copa America win maintaining their lead over second placed France who crashed out in semi-finals of Euro 2024.

The top four ranked nations see Euro champions Spain jump five places to third, while Euro runners-up England moved up to fourth. Brazil rounds out the top five, falling to fifth after securing only one win in the Copa America.

Belgium, previously third, dropped to sixth after losing 25 points—the most of any team in the top ten. The Netherlands remain in seventh, thanks to a strong run to the semi-finals.

Portugal dropped from sixth to eighth after a disappointing performance in Germany.

Colombia entered the top ten, rising three places and gaining 57 points after finishing as runners-up in the Copa America. Italy remains in tenth place with 1714 points, just edging out Uruguay (11th, 1713 points), Croatia (12th, 1701 points), and Germany (13th, 1686 points).

Turkey were the biggest winner at the Euros, jumping 16 places after reaching the quarter-finals, where they narrowly lost to the Netherlands. Spain gained the most points overall, adding an impressive 105 points.

Conversely, the Czechs were the biggest losers, dropping 13 places to 47th after a winless campaign saw them exit in the group stage.

Venezuela made the biggest leap from the Copa America, climbing 17 places. In contrast, the USA had a poor showing on home soil, dropping five places to 16th.
