Transfer talk: Kante to return to PL? Spurs target McTominay, Gunners defensive targets shot down

July 19 – West Ham United are plotting a move for 33-year-old France midfielder N’Golo Kante. The former Chelsea man who put on an impressive display at Euro 2024, has spent the past season in Saudi Arabia with Al Ittihad.

The rumoured fee is set at around £20 million – a steep price for a player approaching retirement – and the Frenchman’s wage demands are likely to be influenced by his current deal worth €25 million-a-season.

Spurs are hoping to pip Fulham to the signing of 27-year-old Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay. The Scotland international’s role at Old Trafford is set to reduce with Ineos backing moves for other players, causing a number of Premier League clubs to circle.

McTominay was an important goalscoring asset for United last season, chipping in with seven goals from midfield despite racking up only 1,800 minutes.

Arsenal look set to end their interest in England defender Marc Guehi with Crystal Palace demanding more than £70 million for the 24-year-old England international. Liverpool remain interested in the player and could look to drive down the price in the coming weeks, having already opened conversation with Crystal Palace earlier this week.

Despite the Gunners still being keen on acquiring defensive reinforcements, talks with Bologna for 22-year-old Italian target Riccardo Califiori have stalled. The defender has been asked to take part in Bologna’s pre-season as Arsenal try to reach an agreement on his valuation, which is taking longer than expected.

Everton’s 22-year-old midfielder Amadou Onana is set to complete his move to Aston Villa by this weekend. The €50 million-rated Belgian will be brought in to replace the outgoing Douglas Luiz, who joined Juventus earlier in the window for €51.5 million.

Atletico Madrid want Manchester City and Argentina striker Julian Alvarez, 24, to replace 31-year-old Milan-bound forward Alvaro Morata. The City striker is keen to cement his place as first choice up front- a title that some fear will always be out of reach with Erling Haaland on the books.

Valued at €90 million by Transfermarkt, a move for Alvarez could mark one of the most expensive deals of the summer.
