July 29 – Ahead of their pre-season US tour, Real Madrid have presented Endrick to their fans, the latest Brazilian prodigy to follow in the footsteps of a long list of illustrious compatriots at the club.
After the pomp and circumstance of Kylian Mbappé’s arrival in the Spanish capital, it was Endrick’s turn to be presented to the fanbase at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. He completed a medical and will be tied to Madrid for six seasons.
“This is crazy! I’m so happy, since I was a kid I have always been a Madrid fan and now I am going to play for Madrid,” said Endrick.
“I don’t have words to describe what I am feeling. I always wanted to be here. I wanted to play for Madrid. It was a dream. Today it is a reality.”
Spanish media reported that Madrid will pay around €60 million in total for the 18-year-old, who plied his trade for Palmeiras. Last year, Endrick signed an agreement with Real Madrid that allowed him to see out the season in Sao Paulo.
His journey is similar to that of Vinicius Junior, who moved at an early age from Flamengo to Madrid and who became, after a season of transition, a major star in the Spanish capital. He scored the winner in the 2022 Champions League final against Liverpool and last month added a second European crown to his honours list.
Endrick however arrives at the Bernabeu with more experience than when Vinicius and the other Brazilian star Rodrygo journey to the Spanish capital. At Palmeiras, he won the Brazilian league crown twice and last November he debuted for Brazil. He scored the winner in a friendly against England in March but failed to make much of an impact in the Copa America.
Endrick will wear the number 16 at the Bernabeu. He is part of Real Madrid’s touring party in the United States.
