Croatian FA makes progress with build of national training centre

September 2 – The Croatian Football Association (HNS) has received a construction permit for the construction of a training centre in Velika Gorica.

After the location was chosen in May, the HNS prepared equested the city of Velika Gorica to issue a construction permit, which included safety, material and construction standards.

Last year the Croatian government and the HNS signed a land donation agreement for the construction of a national football camp in Velika Gorica, just south of Zagreb. The plot measures about 92,000 square meters in area and is worth €4.2 million. The HNS had requested a land donation to build four pitches and a multi-function sports hall with accommodation and catering facilities.

“Obtaining the construction permit is a significant step towards achieving our strategic goal – the construction of the camp of the Croatian Football Association. I am happy that with this we have completed the largest part of what we can call ‘paperwork’, which is very demanding in such a complex project, so I thank everyone from the HNS who did a great job, Mayor Krešimir Ačkar for his support and the city of Velika Gorica for a positive solution”, said HNS president Marijan Kustić.

The next stage is for the HNS to issue a tender for a contractor, with construction expected to begin in early 2025.

“We put a lot of effort into creating the main project, and therefore we are happy that the construction permit was issued, which marks a key step towards starting work on the HNS camp. At the same time, I would like to thank all my colleagues who worked on the main project, as well as the management of the Association led by President Kustić for the great support from which it is clear that the construction of the camp is set as a strategic priority of the Association. This obliges us to continue at the same pace and to start construction at the beginning of next year,” said Andrea Dokuš, the head of infrastructure at HNS.
