Ghana coaches stable after being hospitalised after car crash

September 3 – Three Ghana coaches, including former Premier League defender John Paintsil, are in a stable condition after a car crash.

Paintsil (pictured), who played for West Ham and Fulham and is now Ghana’s assistant manager, and his two colleagues were reportedly lucky to escape with their lives when their SUV was wrecked in a collision with a pick-up while they were travelling back to Accra on Saturday after a national cup final.

Also in the car were Ghana boss Otto Addo and goalkeeping coach Fatawu Dauda.

The three Black Stars coaches were rushed to hospital in Takoradi for emergency treatment.  They are due to undergo further investigations before preparing the national team for upcoming Africa Cup of Nations games against Angola and Niger.

“Members of the Black Stars technical team were involved in a road accident while returning from Tarkwa,” said a Ghana FA statement.

“The vehicle carrying Head Coach Otto Addo, Assistant Coach John Paintsil and goalkeepers trainer Fatawu Dauda avoided a head-on collision with a pick-up truck which veered off into its lane, with some damage to the vehicle.

“All three members of the technical team are in stable condition, and will undergo further medical assessments upon their return to Accra.”
