Thailand’s BG Sports buys into AFC club and 2026 qualifiers with 5-year broadcast deal

September 13 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced a new five-year media partnership with BG Sports which will see them broadcast AFC club and national team matches in Thailand.

The partnership will provide fans in Thailand with access to the AFC’s matches across the Asian Qualifiers – Road to 26, the Champions League Elite and the Champions League Two until the end of the 2028/29 season.

The first edition of the AFC Women’s Champions League will also be covered by BG Sports, with the centralised Group B battles set to be hosted in Thailand.

The deal will see the media company broadcast all matches involving Thai teams, as well as other selected fixtures from the club competitions on their YouTube channel, which currently has 138,000 subscribers.

Kittisak Jirapasuksakul, Executive Director of BG SPORTS said: “BG Sports would like to create a destination for Thai football fans. This five-year partnership with AFC will allow us to build and develop a home for Asian football.  We believe this will enable fans to gain greater access to the AFC tournaments.

“Thai football fans are very passionate and want to give their full support to the current four Thai teams participating in the 2024-25 AFC men’s club competitions. We at BG Sports are looking forward to working closely with the AFC, to enhance the viewing experience for all fans via our BG Sports YouTube channel.”

The BG Sports deal doesn’t cover all of the AFC’s competitions in Thailand with the confederations blue riband 2027 Asian Cup rights still out to tender.

AFC General Secretary Datuk Seri Windsor John said: “We look forward to working in close cooperation with BG Sports to bring more thrilling action to our fans in Thailand and we thank them for believing in the future of Asian football, particularly as we look to elevate the quality and standards of the AFC’s competitions in the coming years.”
