Stefano Piolo heads to Saudi to take over misfiring Al Nassr

September 19 – Stefano Pioli will be Cristiano Ronaldo’s new boss after the Italian was named as Saudi club Al Nassr’s head coach Wednesday, replacing Luis Castro who parted ways with the club after a slow start to the season.

The 58-year-old Pioli, in his first job outside of his homeland, started his managerial career in 1999 and was AC Milan’s boss from October 2019 to May 2024, overseeing the club’s Serie A title-winning campaign in 2022.

Prior to his nearly five-year stint at the Rossoneri, Pioli coached several other Italian sides including Fiorentina, Inter Milan, Lazio, and Bologna.

As a player his biggest achievements were winning the Serie A title with Juventus in 1986 and the European Cup in 1985

Pioli now faces one of his biggest challenges, his Portuguese predecessor at Al-Nassr being the third coach to depart since Ronaldo’s groundbreaking arrival in early 2023. The club finished a distant second in the last Saudi Pro League season

Pioli could start his spell when Al-Nassr travel to face Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq on Friday.
