September 24 – Bulgaria’s CSKA Sofia has begun the second stage of the reconstruction of the Bulgarian Army stadium in Sofia. Following the levelling of the old stadium, the club is now preparing for the construction of the new.
CSKA said that after a “difficult process” in choosing a builder, the club has already signed a contract Bulgarian company Glavbolgarstroy Holding (GBS).
The new stadium, which will be built on the current facility in one of the largest parks in Sofia – Borisova Garden –will cost between BGN 80-90 million (€40-45 million).
“After many months in which we completed important tasks for our new home, it’s time to announce the beginning of the much-awaited phase for all of us – the actual implementation of the project,” said the club in a statement.
“The selection of a contractor went through a difficult process, after which we settled on the best option for our future stadium. The club signed a contract with “Glavbolgarstroy Holding” JSC for a period of 12 months, as much as is necessary for the completion of the structural elements of the stadium. A fully completed, modern facility with a renewed park environment is to be seen in about 18 months time. Thus, not only the club, but also Sofia will have a stadium that meets the standard of a modern, European capital, whose goal is to be responsible both to the environment and to its citizens.”
CSKA said that Glavbolgarstroy as chosen because it is one of the leading construction companies in Bulgaria and has “the experience and capacity to complete the most modern sports facility in the country.
“The contractor is expected to start work in the field within days. Information about the second phase will be given periodically on the club’s official channels, and a new media day for journalists will be organized shortly. We are aware of the interest in the reconstruction of the Bulgarian Army stadium and have taken all measures to ensure that the “red” community receives timely and official information about the process,” the club added.
