Mbappé tops value ranking at €230m as Real Madrid squad value hits €1.37bn

October 3 – A new set of updated player valuations, this time from Football Benchmark, has put Real Madrid’s  Kylian Mbappé at the top of the most valuable player list at €233.3 million, almost €34 million higher than Erling Haaland.

Football Benchmark has updated the valuations of 10,000 players on its platform. The data sees a huge jump of €46 million for Spain and Barcelona’s 17-year-old Euros starlet Lamine Yamal to €123.4 million and ninth place in the ranking.

The top five players in the ranking all cross the €150 million mark while four of the top 10 players by value are English – Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Sako, Phil Foden and Declan Rice. Yamal is the only Spanish player in the top 10.

PSG’s João Neves saw the second highest rise in value (€32.8 million to €85 million) while Manchester United Kobbie Mainoo had the third highest (€24.3 million to €74.9 million).

Top 10 players by transfer value:

The report authors note that “all players in the Top 10 were aged 23 and younger as of the September update and five of the 10 players had transferred clubs in the 2024/25 summer transfer window.”

Football Benchmark excluded the 10 strongest European leagues to create a ranking that sees Ukrainian, Georgiy Sudakov from Shakhtar Donetsk head the table with a €34 million value.

Top 10 market value increases:

Austria’s RB Salzburg have three players (Oscar Gloukh, Karim Konaté and Lucas Gourna-Douath) in the top 10.

“However, attempting to find players who haven’t yet been poached by Europe’s elite clubs is a challenge (a trend that is present in our Top 10 list) as some high-potential players have already agreed to join, are on loan from or have previously played at some of these elite clubs… Estêvão has already agreed to a future transfer to join Chelsea. Similarly, Claudio Echeverri joined Manchester City FC only to be loaned back to River Plate for the 2024 calendar year,” says the report.

Real Madrid CF have reclaimed the top spot as having the most valuable squad in world football with an increase of €243 million € 1,373 billion – with the increase  mostly attributed to the acquisition of Mbappé. Manchester City total squad value dropped  by €71 million following the sale of Julián Alvarez and value decline of older stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson.

Notable movers are PSG and Manchester United FC whose total squad values have increased by € 99 million and €163 million find the report.

Saudi Arabia has four clubs in the top 10 of a squad value ranking that exclude the 10 strongest European leagues. First and third on the list are Brazilian clubs CR Flamengo and SE Palmeiras whose total squad market value are EUR 210 and 195 million – less than the value of Mbappe.
