October 21 – The inaugural Concacaf W Champions Cup has reached the semi-final stage with two Mexico vs USA match-ups and the final and third place match to be played at a centralised venue in May 2025.
Mexico’s Tigres Femenil and Club America Femenil topped the group play and will see Tigres meet Portland Thorns from the NWSL while Club America will face NJ/NY Gotham FC.
The tournament is the qualification route to FIFA’s recently announced 16-team Women’s Club World Cup that will be held for the first time in February 2026. Host country and the number of qualification slots by confederation have yet to be announced.
The 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup kicked off in August with a single-leg Play-In in with Vancouver Whitecaps beating El Salvador’s Alianza Women FC 1-0 to enter the 10 team group stage.
The 10 clubs comprised three from the NWSL (USA), three from Liga MX (Mexico), and one from each of the domestic leagues of Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica, and Panama. The five-week Group Stage was completed last week.
Tigres and Gotham were both unbeaten in their group, producing an epic 4-4 draw when they played each other. Gotham dropped points against the other Mexican team in their group with a 0-0 draw against CF Monterrey, leaving Tigres group winners.
In Group B, Club America, Portland Thorns and San Diego Wave were level on nine points each with goal difference settling the final league positions.
The San Diego Wave beat Club America but beat the Portland Thorns, who beat Club America. Club America top scored with 14 goals in their five games, only letting in three.
