France and Spain close in on Argentina, Germany on brink of top 10 world ranking return

October 27 – After an October international match window that saw 126 competitive matches and 17 friendlies played, Argentina remain top of the world rankings,but France and Spain are closing in on them.

The top 10 saw no change with the top six holding their positions. Portugal (7th, up 1) and Italy (9th, up 1) are the only climbers in the top ten. The Netherlands (8th, down 1) and Colombia (10th, down 1), each dropped a place.

Germany now hover just outside the top 10, up two places to 11th. Seven European nations and three South American fill the top 10 slots.

Further down the rankings FIFA highlight the movements of Algeria (37th, up 4), Peru (38th, up 5) and Greece (42nd, up 6) as worthy of note, while Cameroon (49th, up 4) return to the top 50.

Comoros and Sudan were the biggest movers, both up 10 places. Tunisia saw the biggest drop down the rankings of 11 places.

A total of 166 teams played in the last international window. Eritrea have been dropped from the ranking as being inactive.
