UEFA’s Euro 2024 ESG reports on €29.6m of positive social impact

November 1 – EURO 2024 in Germany prioritised sustainability and social impact alongside delivering a stellar tournament. The UEFA EURO 2024 Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, released in Frankfurt on today, highlights major strides in environmental and social responsibility.

With a €29.6 million investment, UEFA implemented over 120 sustainability initiatives, reaching 95% of its pre-tournament goals. These efforts, aligned with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, included waste reduction, renewable energy use, and community outreach, aiming to set a sustainable standard for large-scale events.

UEFA’s data-driven approach underscored its commitment to transparency and measurable outcomes. The ESG Report details both the successes and challenges in integrating environmental and social contributions into the tournament’s framework.

Aleksander Čeferin, UEFA president, said: “EURO 2024 was more than just a sports event. By placing sustainability, inclusion, and integrity at its core, this tournament showcased the power of football to inspire positive change for people and the environment.”

Beyond the on-pitch action, UEFA supported over 10,000 disabled fans with enhanced services and tackling online and in-person abuse through partnerships with Meta, X, and TikTok.

Affordability was also prioritised, with 387,000 tickets priced at €30, while healthy food options were made available at all venues.

Initiatives like the #FootbALL and 4R campaigns engaged 5.4 billion viewers globally, demonstrating how football can integrate sustainability to create lasting positive impact.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf added: “Sustainability was a key focus at EURO 2024, thanks to efforts from UEFA, local organisers, and our supportive fans. This success sets a precedent for future events, including our bid to host the 2029 UEFA Women’s Championship.”
