November 3 – Fenerbache coach, Jose Mourinho, is world-renowned for his ability to get close to his players, however, the Portuguese ‘Special One’ forgot it’s the mental closeness, not the physical game that he is known for.
During first-team training last week, the 61-year-old was as always close to the action. As the players went through their paces in a tight midfield exercise, hardman midfielder, Ismail Yuksek, nailed the ‘Special One’ from behind.
Yuksek, was chasing the ball hard, and failed to notice his manager, who was wearing the same colour as the non-bibbed players. Yuksek clattered Mourinho from behind and down he went in a heap as players, and medical staff quickly ran to his aid.
As he left the pitch supported by the medical staff, it was clear to see that he was heavily limping.
Mourinho had a sense of humor about the whole incident despite nursing a sore leg posting on Instagram a clip of the collision writing: “Lesson to young coaches ‘never wear same color as players’ … they can pass you the ball … or kick you from behind.”.
Since joining the Turkish giants, it’s been a mixed bag for the two-time winner of the UEFA Champions League. A humbling loss at home to fiercest rivals, Galatasaray, has been offset by an encouraging start in the UEFA Europa League, a tournament he has won twice with FC Porto and Manchester United respectively.
Fenerbache currently sit in third place in the Turkish Super Lig but trail Gala by eight points with a match in hand. Whether Mourinho gets back on the training field is unclear at the moment, but one thing is for sure, you can never keep the ‘Special One’ out of the news.
