November 11 – The bottom line for football clubs around the world is critical and budgets are often manipulated and stretched to perform financial tricks. In a surprising move, Real Madrid who have one of the world’s biggest budgets have not factored any income for next year’s FIFA World Club Cup, “as there is no precise information on the subject”.
With so many aspects of the CWC surrounded in mystery including training bases, sponsors, and broadcasters, Real Madrid is playing a waiting game and have even made noises about not competing in next year’s 32-team extravaganza.
The club shared their projections for the 2024-25 with their club members, with two financial question marks: uncertainty over the expanded 32-team Club World Cup next summer and the club’s dispute with local residents about hosting concerts at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Income streams from the tournament and concerts held at the newly refurbished Santiago Bernabeu have not been included. The renovation of the stadium cost €1.76 billion ($1.91 billion). The renovation project began in 2019 and took four years to complete. The total cost includes interest and the stadium is expected to be paid off by 2053.
According to The Athletic, the accounts show that turnover has reached a staggering €1.043 billion ($1.113 billion) for the first time, however, this comes with an asterix.
In total, Madrid have budgeted revenues of €1.13 billion for 2024-25 financial year, an increase of €54.7 million from 2023-24. The club have seen a 14% revenue growth based on their stadium, with an annual budget projection of €362.1 million.
