December 16 – San Diego FC, who will make their debut in Major League Soccer (MLS), next season, are already breaking records before they’ve even stepped foot on the pitch.
Within 24 hours of the team releasing the club’s shirt, the record for most jersey’s sold by an expansion team was beaten underscoring the significant engagement with the local fanbase.
Sportswear giant Adidas, that supplies all the clubs in the league with kits. have incorporated design elements that speak to San Diego’s coastal and cultural identity. The primary Azul color symbolizes the ocean meeting the sky, reflecting the city’s scenic coastline, while Chrome details add a modern touch. Gradient side stripes represent the diversity of San Diego’s neighborhoods, a central theme in the club’s community-driven ethos.
With a new kit, sponsorship opportunities are rife and SDFC have been quick to collaborate with DIRECTV, as the club’s first jersey sponsor. The DIRECTV logo appears prominently in Chrome across the front of the jersey.
The jersey launch is an important milestone, as the club joins a competitive market in Southern California with the current MLS champions, LA Galaxy, and LAFC just a quick ride north on the 5 freeway, not to mention LigaMx team, Xolos, who are located just over the border in Tijuana, Mexico.
