December 27 – Tigres’ historic Estadio Universitario stadium in Nuevo Leon, a suburb of Monterey, Mexico, will host the final four of the inaugural Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals in May 2025.
It is the second time Concacaf have visited the 42,000 capacity ‘El Volcan’ for a major women’s championships. In 2022 the stadium hosted eight matches, including the semi-finals, of the Concacaf W Championship.
Tigres Femenil topped Group A in qualifying for the final four of Concacaf’s new women’s club competition. They will play their semi-final against the USA’s Portland Thorns who came second in Group B. In the other semi-final Mexico’s Club America will play the USA’s NJ/NY Gotham FC.
“Nuevo Leon’s Estadio Universitario is a historic venue in our region and has hosted many great Concacaf matches over the years,” said Concacaf President and FIFA Vice President Victor Montagliani.
“We are confident they will be excellent hosts for the four participating clubs and their fans, as they continue a thrilling journey to become the Confederation’s first-ever women’s club champion… I would like to thank the leadership team at Tigres for their commitment to hosting the Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals and for playing a key role in the ongoing development of all aspects of women’s football.”
The Concacaf W Champions Cup opened with 11 qualified clubs from seven nations in August. The final four will be played from May 21 to 24, 2025.
It is the qualification pathway to the new 16-team Women’s Club World Cup which will hold its first edition between January and February 2026. The number of Concacaf qualifying teams and the host nations have yet to be decided.
“It is a source of pride and a great challenge for our institution to host the Concacaf W Champions Cup Finals, where our Amazonas will seek to qualify for the first FIFA Women’s Club World Cup. Bringing this type of tournament to El Volcán and giving our fans and those of all of Mexico the opportunity to enjoy high-quality football is a reflection of Tigres’ commitment to the development of women’s football and our desire to take this team to the next level,” said Club Tigres president Mauricio Culebro.
