Match day 19: Hammers nail season’s lead at top of capacity table

January 2 – The Premier League closed out the year with another strong attendance showing, leaving just 6,000 seats empty across 10 matches – a score significantly above the seasonal average. Four clubs hit the coveted 99% capacity mark, equalling the record for most clubs in this range during a single gameweek.

West Ham United set the benchmark for the best percentage capacity of the season so far, with fans packing the London Stadium to within 24 seats of its maximum capacity. However, the electric atmosphere couldn’t lift Julen Lopetegui’s side, who were dismantled by a five-star Liverpool performance.

Manchester United’s supporters once again proved their resilience, keeping Old Trafford in the 99% capacity bracket despite the club’s poor form. Ruben Amorim’s side slipped to an early 2-0 deficit against Newcastle, leaving fans dejected and the manager openly admitting the Red Devils could be dragged into a relegation battle. A showdown with Liverpool looms next, testing both team and supporter morale.

Leicester City made their first appearance in the 99% capacity range this season as fans turned up in droves to see if the struggling Foxes could find their footing against reigning champions Manchester City. While the result didn’t go Leicester’s way, the show of support suggests optimism remains alive in the East Midlands.

At the other end of the table, Fulham once again posted the lowest attendance percentage of the week, with Craven Cottage sitting at 95% capacity for their 2-2 draw with Bournemouth. Despite an entertaining game, the club continues to struggle to fill its seats compared to its Premier League peers.

As the Premier League heads into 2025, January fixtures promise key clashes and new signings potentially invigorating fan bases, it will be worth watching which clubs can maintain – or improve – their attendance scores.
