PSG beat AS Monaco to win Trophée des Champions in Doha

January 6 – Paris Saint-Germain have kicked off 2025 in style with a 1-0 victory against AS Monaco to claim the French Super Cup in Doha.

It’s the third consecutive time that the Parisians lift the ‘Trophée des Champions’ though this time the French champions needed a 92nd-minute strike from Ousmane Dembele to prevail. They had been the dominant side, creating 27 chances, but failed to break the deadlock. It’s the 11th time in 12 years that PSG won the Super Cup, a reflection of their dominance of French football.

“Today, it was a very difficult game, against an opponent with very high-quality players and a lot of attacking ones,” said PSG manager Luis Enrique.

“We had… moments of domination and moments of defensive suffering, but I think that in the end, the goal did justice to a team that never stops fighting, that continues to attack, that does not stop running, that does not stop defending. I think it is something very positive and that we must continue to value.”

The match was staged at 974 Stadium in the Qatari capital. Since 2011, the French club have been owned by Qatar Sports Investments. Next weekend, PSG’s attention turns back to Ligue 1 when they welcome Saint Etienne to the Parc des Princes. Monaco travel away to Nantes.

“Starting 2025 this way, in an almost full stadium, with a lot of Parisian supporters in it… it gives us confidence, it’s important for morale, and we have to enjoy it before thinking about the future,” said Enrique.

“With the game, the idea that we have and the profile of our players, we must continue to grow as a team, to improve in any situation.”
